What is NZDC?
The NZ Dance Challenge (NZDC) is a fun and exciting opportunity for students to learn, perform and share a dance routine along with other New Zealand schools. It provides a safe, age appropriate and fun platform for children to participate and enjoy the benefits of dance.
The NZ Dance Challenge is a term-based programme and can be used however works best for your school. Popular options include running each dance challenge as:
-
An in-class daily fitness programme
Get kids active after they been working inside and is also perfect to implement on rainy days. The tutorial videos are around 5 minutes long, so rather than playing a one-off YouTube video (which kids enjoy but most of the time don’t lead to anything in particular) you could replace them with our NZDC tutorial videos and achieve a whole dance choreography at the end of the term.
- 5 – 10 minutes per day
- 25 – 50 minutes a week
- 4 – 8 hours over a term
Our NZ Dance Challenge Teacher Resources have been specifically designed to align with the NZ Arts Curriculum. The content has been tailored to give students a deeper understanding of dance and to help them develop their knowledge and abilities while enjoying the benefits of getting active and having fun! To get the most out of our curriculum resources, we suggest running a 30- minute session once a week, with short, regular practices of the Dance Challenge routine throughout the week. These practice sessions could be run in 5-minute bursts for daily fitness where the students follow the Tutorial Video.
